"A truck crier of sorts has made it to tonight’s debate.

Tines, of Orlando, Fla., is driving a truck with a message from theNational Committee to Preserve Social Security & Medicare.

He’s been in the Des Moines area since Thursday, driving along key routes of the metro.

He even has a schedule.  Tonight he’ll remain on the Drake University campus until the ABC News/Des Moines Register debate ends at 10 p.m.; and tomorrow he’ll be in Ankeny and Altoona.

Monday’s route is yet to be determined.  And the truck is almost certain to return before the Jan. 3 caucuses, he said.

“I’ve gotten a lot of good smiles, especially with the elder folks,” Tines said. “A lot of thumbs up. Waving and honking.”

The group was started almost 30 years ago by James Roosevelt, a former congressman and son of President Franklin D. Roosevelt, who signed the Social Security Act into law. It bills itself as the nation’s leading advocacy group to protect the programs."
